Matthew 6:7 “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
When you talk to a friend do you repeat the same thing over and over again? Have the same conversation every time you talk? Probably not. So why do we tend to do that when we talk to God. Maybe it is the same prayer before meals three times a day. Possibly it is a need or a desire in our life and in one short three minute prayer we tell God about it, over and over repeating ourselves. We tend to forget that God knows what we want and what we need before we even ask. You don’t have to try to convince Him and long and repetitious prayers will not manipulate Him or wear Him down into giving in and making what you want happen sooner. When you pray simply and concisely say what you need to say.Today when you pray before a meal or bed, don’t say the same thing you always say. Focus on your words and really talk to God.Right now take a few minutes and simply tell God what is going on in your life. Simply and briefly tell God what you need from Him today. Tell Him about the area are you struggling with and need help. Simply tell Him the desire of your heart that you want to see come to pass. Then wait. God’s timing is always better than ours.
