1 Timothy 2:1-2 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. (NKJ)
Last night we had the last Presidential Debate before the big election. The candidates spoke, the pundits analyzed, the pollsters took their surveys and everyone has an opinion on who won and who lost. People get all worked up about politics. Many take politics personal. Friendships have ended, families have quit talking to other family members, and couples have divorced, all over political differences. Skim through your Facebook feed now until mid-November and you probably can’t go 10 post without one of them being political in nature. So while you stump for your candidate of choice, talk them up, try to convince everyone around you that they are the best choice and the country is sunk if the other guy wins, have you done the most important thing you can do during this election season… pray.
Scripture calls us to pray for our leaders, whether or not we like them or agree with them. Today pray and thank God you live in a country that lets us choose our leaders and worship as we please in whatever denomination or church we choose. Pray specifically for the election and the two candidates. Pray that God will give whoever is elected wisdom to lead our country in the right direction. Pray not for your will to be done but for God’s.
