1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
Spiritual warfare happens all around us on a daily basis. When temptation strikes the battle begins. When faced with temptation the enemy immediately go into salesman mode . “It’s no big deal. Nobody will care because EVERYONE does this. It will make you feel better and It won’t wreck your life, besides you can do what you want.” So you give in.. then what happens? Shame, guilt, pain, addiction. The funny thing is when you need help getting away from sin the same enemy will now tell you the opposite of what he told you before. “This is a big deal. NOBODY has ever done anything as bad as this. If you try to talk to someone about this they will shun you and hate you. You better cover this up because if you talk to someone about this it will wreck your life.”
When we mess up and feel guilty we feel alone. Like we are the only one in the world who has messed “like this”. But scripture makes it clear that the temptation you experience is common to everyone, and if it is common to everyone then you can also be sure that you are not the only one who has given in. And besides, more people probably know than you think, and even if you have been good at hiding from others you can’t hide anything from God.
Pray and ask God to forgive you for the times you have given in to temptation. If giving in to temptation in an area (drugs, pornography, sex, anger, alcohol, etc.) has become a way of life pray that God will help you overcome this area and find someone you trust to talk to. If you do you will find out you are not alone and that there are others out there who have overcome what you are facing and ready to help you overcome it as well.
